He was also suffering from urinary infection.
Singh’s health condition worsened on October 2 and he was shifted to the ICU.
Singh’s son Akhilesh Yadav, also a former chief minister of the state, and the latter’s politician wife Dimple reached the hospital where the patriarch died.
Singh had served as the chief minister of UP as many as three times (in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2007s) and was also a former defence minister of India.
The SP founder was born on November 22, 1939, in Saifai village in Etawah district of the then United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) and was groomed by mass leaders such as Ram Manohar Lohia and Raj Narain.
The late politician was one of India’s most discussed leaders of the 1990s who was born out of mass movements. Singh was known to be a master strategist whose political moves had often kept both his allies and opponents wondering and he was an expert in combining regional and federal politics to remain relevant throughout his active years in politics.
Indian prime minister Narendra Modi condoled Singh’s death.
