INDIAN PRIME minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the US is expected to focus on substantive discussions and concrete outcomes in areas such as defense and critical technology, as well as the simplification of regulatory frameworks to facilitate deeper industrial cooperation. Officials familiar with the preparations for the trip emphasised the mutual interest in forging a strong technology partnership and enhancing economic engagement between India and the US.
The ministry of external affairs officially announced Modi’s two-nation state visit to the US and Egypt, scheduled from June 20 to 25.
During his visit, Modi is set to hold talks with US president Joe Biden, with both leaders expected to finalise various arrangements and deals, including India’s procurement of 30 armed drones. Discussions are also likely to cover the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Indo-Pacific region, China’s behavior, and other pressing regional and global issues.
Modi’s visit will commence in New York, where he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations headquarters on June 21. He will then travel to Washington, where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House and engage in high-level dialogue with President Biden. A state dinner in honor of Modi will be hosted by the Bidens on the same evening. Additionally, the prime minister is scheduled to address a joint sitting of the US Congress and attend a luncheon hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Alongside official engagements, Modi will have curated interactions with CEOs, professionals, stakeholders, and members of the Indian diaspora. The visit aims to be substantive in both substance and symbolism, conveying important political messages and reflecting a deep and genuine interest from both sides.
