A ‘PREDICTION’ made by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on a lighter note in 2019 went viral on Wednesday (26) after two notices for no-confidence against his government were filed in the parliament on the current situation in the northeastern state of Manipur by the opposition which recently came on one platform called INDIA to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 general elections.

In a video of Modi’s remark made in February 2019 which has become viral following the latest move by the opposition, the leader is heard saying that the opposition should prepare for yet another no-trust motion in 2023.

Ankur Singh on Twitter: “PM Modi before 2019 Lok Sabha elxn predicted that Congress will bring No Confidence Motion in 2023. His prediction was spot on https://t.co/1lfaO54kHO” / Twitter

He was speaking during a debate on the then president’s speech during the budget session and it was about his government defeating such a motion placed in 2018.

The motion on that occasion was submitted by Telugu Desam Party parliamentarian Srinivas Kasineni but it was defeated. Rahul Gandhi, who was the president of the Indian National Congress then, crossed to the treasury benches and hugged Modi during the debate on the motion, causing a massive controversy.

“I want to offer my best wishes… prepare so much that you get a chance to bring a no-confidence again in 2023,” PM Modi said in Lok Sabha in Hindi, drawing laughter and desk-thumping from ruling party MPs.

“This is Samarpan Bhav (service) that from two (MPs) we are sitting here (in power). And the result of ahankar (arrogance) is that from 400, you have come down to 40. Look where you are today…,” Modi said on that occasion, indirectly taunting the Congress which has been a dominant force in Indian politics for most of the period after Independence in 1947.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi was present along with other senior party leaders when Modi made the jeering remarks.

A video of the prime minister’s statement was shared by government sources who called it PM Modi’s “prediction”.

It is likely that the new no-confidence motion against the Modi government will be defeated this time as well in the Lok Sabha or Lower Chamber of the Parliament since the government enjoys a big majority there. However, according to some, the move was aimed at compelling Modi to issue a statement on Manipur which has been witnessing serious violence and other crimes for nearly three months now.
