Indian prime minister Narendra Modi was on Wednesday (19) set to embark on yet another visit to his home state Gujarat which is set to go to polls. It was his third visit in three weeks and like his previous trips, he would lay the foundation stone of several projects in the western state.
During his two-day visit, Modi would cover places such as Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Kevadiya, and Vyara, a statement from the prime minister’s office said on Tuesday (18).
The prime minister was also set to inaugurate the Defence Expo-22 in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. He was scheduled to lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 15,670 crore (£1.68 billion).
The Expo, being held under the theme ‘Path to Pride’, will see the largest-ever participation in the history of Indian Defence Expo.
The event will showcase the scope and scale of India’s defence-manufacturing prowess and besides India Pavilion, it will feature 10 state pavilions.
Modi was also set to unveil HTT-40, an indigenous trainer aircraft designed by the Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, at the India Pavilion. He will also lay the foundation stone of Deesa airfield in the state.
Around noon, Modi will launch the Mission Schools of Excellence at Adalaj. The mission has been conceived with a total outlay of Rs 10,000 crore (£1.07 billion). During an event at Trimandir, the PM will launch projects worth around Rs 4,260 crore (£457.4 million). The mission will help strengthen education infrastructure in Gujarat by setting up new classrooms, smart classrooms, computer labs and overall upgrading of school infrastructure in the state.
Thereafter, Modi will lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Junagadh and Rajkot.
On Thursday (20) morning, Modi will launch Mission LiFE in the presence of United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Kevadiya. Thereafter, he will participate in the 10th Heads of Missions Conference in Kevadiya.
On Thursday evening, Modi will lay the foundation stone of multiple development initiatives worth over Rs 1,970 crore (£210.5 million) in Vyara, Tapi.
He will lay the foundation stone for the improvement of the road from Saputara to the Statue of Unity along with construction of missing links.
Other projects, whose foundation stone will be laid, include water supply projects worth over Rs 300 crore (£211.5 million) in Tapi and Narmada districts.
The Election Commission of India unveiled the election schedule for the state of Himachal Pradesh, which will also go to polls this year end, but did not announce the one for Gujarat.
