INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi was set to meet Indian business leaders in Washington on Friday (23), the fourth and the final day of his state visit to the US which saw pledges to deepen cooperation between the two nations on areas such as space, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
US president Joe Biden on Thursday (22) announced after having lengthy talks with Modi that their countries’ economic relationship was “booming”. Trade between the two democracies increased by more than double over the past decade.
Modi met Biden and first lady Jill Biden on an eventful day on Thursday when he attended a state dinner and addressed a joint session of the US Congress. He also exchanged gifts with the Bidens.

The India leader will also meet US officials during a lunch at the state department with vice president Kamala Harris and secretary of state Antony Blinken.
Modi, who has appealed to global economies to ‘Make in India’, will also address business leaders at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in the US capital.
The event, which is expected to see a turnout of 1,200 people, could see among the audience the chief executives of top US firms such as FedEx, Adobe and MasterCard as well as representatives of Indian companies such as Tech Mahindra and Mastek.
Modi’s current visit to the US has been fruitful in terms of economic and strategic cooperation as deals announced between the two countries this week included investments from American countries at boosting semiconductor manufacturing in India and lowering dependence on China for electronics.
Washington also unveiled plans to cooperate on quantum computing, scientific research and technological innovation, alongside plans to make weapons in India.
On Friday evening, Modi will also address members of the Indian diaspora, many of whom have turned out at events during the visit to enthusiastically greet him.
