INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi, who is still busy with campaigns for the general elections that are nearing the end, will reach the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Thursday (30) for a spiritual sojourn.
It has been reported that the leader, who is seeking a rare third consecutive term in office in this year’s election, will begin on the same day a 48-hour meditation at the memorial, where famous Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda had once meditated.
The memorial is located at the southernmost point of mainland India where three sea bodies — Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea meet. It is also located close to the statue of Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil saint.
The campaigning for the seventh and final phase of the election on June 1 will conclude the same day Modi will begin his meditation. The results will be announced on June 4.

Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party and its National Democratic Alliance are facing a challenge from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, a bloc comprising more than two dozen parties, which is aiming to beat the incumbent.

However, Modi and his party have exuded confidence in a comprehensive win this time as well. The prime minister has even promised ahead of this year’s election that the country would emerge as the world’s third largest economy in his third term.
In the southern parts of the country, including Tamil Nadu, however, Modi’s party has remained a fringe player despite extensive campaigning.
