INDIAN PRIME minister Narendra Modi will meet the chief executive of Tesla, Elon Musk, during his visit to the US that kicked off on Tuesday (20).

This will be his first meeting with the American business leader after he took over as the owner of Twitter, where the Indian prime minister is one of the most followed leaders, last year.

The previous meeting between Modi and Musk took place in 2015 when the former visited the Tesla Motors factory in California.

The upcoming meeting between the two leaders comes at a time when Tesla is seeking a location for its factory in the South Asian nation.

Recently, Musk said “absolutely” when asked in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on whether his company was interested in the Indian market. The Tesla CEO added that the auto giant was likely to finalise a location in India to set up its factory by the end of 2023.

Modi will also meet CEOs of various US companies and thought-leaders from various fields during his stay in the US.

Although Modi is visiting the US for the eighth time since taking over as the prime minister in 2014, it is the first time that he is making a state visit, an honour that Washington accords to its closest of allies. The prime minister will also address a joint session of the US Congress — for the second time — a feat which only a few in history has achieved.
