INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi was elated after the country registered history on Saturday (7) by securing its 100th medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou in China. He congratulated the Indian athletes and said he will host the contingent on October 10, two days after the tournament concludes.
The ‘milestone’ medal came when the women’s kabaddi team gave India a gold medal beating Chinese Taipei early in the morning. Modi called it a “momentous” achievement and congratulated the athletes representing India at the continental meet.
“The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals,” the prime minister said in a post on X.

India, whose previous medal haul at the Asian Games was 70 recorded in Jakarta in Indonesia in 2018, became the fourth country at the Games to cross 100 medals after China who were at 354, Japan at 169 and South Korea at 170 (less gold than Japan) at the time of writing this report.
India were at 26 gold, 35 silver and 40 bronze when the latest reports came in with the most number of gold (six) coming in athletics.
Two years ago, India finished with their best-ever medal haul at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, with one gold, two silver and four bronze.
