The moment symbolised deepening bonds between India and Mexico. India’s ministry of external affairs said the two countries’ relations have been friendly, warm and cordial throughout.
It said both countries are large emerging economies with similar socio-economic development priorities and constraints and have democratic, secular and pluralistic systems and worldviews that are convergent.
The Indian prime minister, who inaugurated the two-day P20 and addressed its inaugural session, said terrorism anywhere in the world and in any form is against humanity and conflicts do not benefit anyone.
He also asserted that “this is time for peace and brotherhood” as a divided world cannot provide solutions to big global challenges. The event was taking place at a time when Israel and Palestinian militant outfit Hamas were locked in a deadly conflict that left several thousands killed.
Stressing on India hosting the P20, Modi said, “P20 Summit is being organized in India, which is the mother of democracy and the world’s biggest democracy too…Parliaments across the world are an important place for debate and deliberations…”
The P20 was attended by speakers of parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries. India – the host of the recently held G20 summit – organised the event under the theme of ‘Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future’.
The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit will focus on four subjects of transformation in people’s lives through public digital platforms, women-led development, accelerating sustainable development goals and sustainable energy transition.
