STRONG TREMORS were felt after a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern part of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir around 1.30 pm local time on Tuesday (13) afternoon, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said.
Preliminary reports said the quake took place 18 kilometres away from Gandoh Bhalessa village in Doda district of Kashmir and at a depth of 30 kilometres, India Today reported.
“Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km, Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” tweeted National Center for Seismology.

Tremors were also felt in other parts of north India, including national capital Delhi and also in Lahore in Pakistan, reports said.
A local resident from Srinagar, Kashmir, told Asian News International, “The earthquake scared school children. People in shops rushed out. It was scary. This was more intense than the tremors last week…”
Several people took to Twitter to share the update recalling numerous incidents of earthquakes in the recent past.
