Kriti Sanon does a double role in “Do Patti” and makes her debut as a producer. She is also excited to work along with Kajol

BOLLYWOOD star Kriti Sanon is set to showcase her talent alongside senior actor Kajol in the upcoming film “Do Patti.”
This mystery thriller not only features Kriti in a dual role but also marks her debut as a producer. The film is a reunion for the two actors, who previously collaborated in “Dilwale” in 2015, but this time, Kriti expressed her excitement about sharing significant screen time with Kajol, saying, “I was excited that finally, I will get to do some meaty scenes with her which I didn’t get during ‘Dilwale’. I feel she’s just getting better and better in the way she looks and the way she is just on set.”
In the film, Kajol plays a determined police inspector investigating a case of attempted murder in the fictional town of Devipur, Uttarakhand.
Kriti describes Kajol’s character as the “moral compass” of the story, highlighting how her role serves to narrate key elements of the plot. “She’s the one sort of narrating this story and through her you get to know bits and parts of the story,” Kriti noted.
Kajol mentioned that her previous collaboration with Kriti did not allow them to bond as they had limited scenes together in “Dilwale.” She remarked, “This was quite a welcome surprise. She has definitely grown, and you can see that from ‘Dilwale’ to here.”
The film’s screenplay is written by Kanika Dhillon and directed by debutant Shashanka Chaturvedi. Kriti shared that playing a double role posed a unique challenge, particularly in differentiating the two sisters.
“It was fun because as an actor, suddenly, you’re getting to play two characters in one film itself. That doesn’t happen often,” she explained.
Kajol, who has experience with double roles in films like “Dushman” and “Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi,” acknowledged the complexity involved in Kriti’s portrayal, stating, “For her, it’s a very technically challenging aspect of playing a double role. You’re playing two characters. You are reacting to yourself… And everything has to be just perfect.”
In addition to her acting role, Kriti produced “Do Patti” through her company, Blue Butterfly Films, in partnership with Dhillon’s Kathha Pictures. She emphasized her focus on acting during filming, saying, “I don’t really come out as a producer on set.”
The trend of female stars stepping into production is gaining momentum, with Kriti joining the ranks of actors like Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone.
Kajol believes this shift represents a broader evolution for women in the industry. “It’s a natural evolution for every actor to want to eventually do something more than just act,” she stated.
Featuring TV star Shaheer Sheikh in his film debut, along with Tanvi Azmi and Brijendra Kala, “Do Patti” is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday.
