Kareena Kapoor Khan has officially signed on to star in Daayra, a gripping new film directed by Meghna Gulzar and co-starring Malayalam powerhouse Prithviraj Sukumaran. The announcement came on April 14, when Kareena took to Instagram to share the exciting news with a set of behind-the-scenes pictures featuring herself, Prithviraj, and director Meghna Gulzar.
In one image, the trio is seen in an intense discussion, sparking curiosity about the film’s subject. In the next, they are all smiles, hinting at the strong camaraderie shared between the lead actors and the director. Kareena captioned her post with heartfelt enthusiasm: “I have always said that I am a director’s actor… and this time I cannot wait to work with one of the finest directors we have, Meghna Gulzar and alongside the magnificent Prithviraj Sukumaran, whose work I deeply admire. To my dream team, Daayra. Let’s do this.”
The film is being backed by Junglee Pictures, known for their critically acclaimed and content-driven cinema. Daayra marks Kareena’s first collaboration with both Meghna Gulzar and Prithviraj Sukumaran, making it a much-anticipated project.

Meghna Gulzar also posted the same set of pictures on her Instagram profile. In her caption, she hinted at the film’s central theme with the words: “When the lines of Law and Justice cross.” She expressed excitement about starting this journey with “the incredible Kareena Kapoor Khan and the versatile Prithviraj Sukumaran,” and also acknowledged the creative input of co-writers Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal.
Actress Karisma Kapoor expressed her excitement over Kareena’s new project, commenting “Finally ❤️” under the post. Other celebrities like Amruta Khanvilkar congratulated the team, adding to the buzz on social media.
Meghna Gulzar’s track record has been stellar with powerful films like Raazi (2018), Chhapaak (2020), and her most recent biographical war drama Sam Bahadur (2023) featuring Vicky Kaushal. With Daayra, she seems to be returning to intense, socially conscious storytelling.
Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Singham Again, which hit theaters in November 2024. The film was a part of Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe and featured an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, and Jackie Shroff. The film was a box office success and showcased Kareena in a fierce, action-packed role.
On the other hand, Prithviraj Sukumaran recently wore the director’s hat for the multilingual film L2: Empuraan, a sequel to Lucifer. The film, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, premiered on March 27 and was well received across markets.
