Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ set for global release next year

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film reunites Haasan with the acclaimed filmmaker 35 years after their last collaboration, “Nayakan,” released in 1987

ON THE occasion of Kamal Haasan’s 70th birthday on Wednesday (7), the makers of his upcoming film “Thug Life” announced that the movie will be released worldwide on June 5, 2025.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the Tamil film reunites Haasan with the acclaimed filmmaker 35 years after their last collaboration, “Nayakan,” released in 1987.

Raaj Kamal Films International, one of the production houses behind “Thug Life,” shared the announcement on their official X page, captioning the video with, “His STORY, His RULES #KHBirthdayCelebrations #HBDKamalHaasan #ThugLifeFromJune5.”

The film boasts an ensemble cast, featuring Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Nassar, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ali Fazal, and Vaiyapuri.

The production is also backed by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies and Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, with music composed by AR Rahman.

In honor of Haasan’s birthday, many industry figures extended their best wishes.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal posted, “Happy Birthday, dear Kamal Haasan sir! May this year bring you even greater success and joy as you continue sharing your artistry, creativity, and dedication with the world.”

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called Haasan “a true icon of cinema and a passionate advocate for secular and democratic values” in his own tribute on X.

Malayalam director T K Rajeev Kumar also praised Haasan’s dedication, saying, “It is his passion for cinema that takes him ahead. He is not bothered about victories or failures.”
