US SPECIAL presidential envoy for climate John Kerry will visit India on September 12 and during his three-day stay in the country, the two democracies will launch the Climate Action and Finance Mobilisation Dialogue, the US state department has confirmed.
According to the department, Kerry will meet Indian officials and private sector leaders as part of Washington’s efforts to engage with international players to address the climate crisis. The former US secretary of state will discuss with the Indian leaders efforts to raise global climate ambition and speed up New Delhi’s clean energy transition,
“During his visit, the United States and India will launch the Climate Action and Finance Mobilisation Dialogue (CAFMD), one of the two main tracks of the US-India Agenda 2030 Partnership that President (Joe) Biden and Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi announced at the Leaders Summit on Climate in April 2021,” the US state department on Friday (10) said.
Kerry will also bolster the US’s bilateral and multilateral climate efforts ahead of COP26 (26th Conference to the Parties) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in October and November in Glasgow, the UK, according to media releases.
In April, Kerry spoke with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on how the US could help mobilise finance to bring down risks in producing alternative energy in the fight against the phenomenon of global warming.
India is the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China and the US, although with much less emissions per capita than them.
