ACADEMY award-winner Javier Bardem will star in the upcoming series adaptation of Cape Fear, set to stream on Apple TV+.

The show, produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, is based on the 1991 film directed by Scorsese and features Bardem as the antagonist Max Cady, a notorious killer from the past. Bardem is also set to executive produce the series.

The 10-episode show, written by Nick Antosca, who is known for “The Act and Candy”, follows attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden as their peaceful life is disrupted by Cady’s release from prison.

The series is described as a tense thriller with Hitchcockian elements, as well as a commentary on America’s fascination with true crime. The show is based on both the novel The Executioners, which inspired the original 1962 film starring Gregory Peck, and the 1991 remake.

The 1991 Cape Fear movie, which also featured Robert De Niro as Max Cady, was produced by Spielberg and Scorsese.

Bardem is best known for his roles in “No Country for Old Men”, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, “Dune 2”, and the Netflix series “Monster”.

He will also star in the upcoming Apple Original Films movie “F1”, which will premiere in theatres globally in 2025.

This marks the latest collaboration between Amblin Television and Apple TV+, who previously worked together on “Masters of the Air”.

Apple also collaborated with Scorsese on “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
