WITH India’s festival season about to kick off, the country’s decorated Olympians and Paralympians have come together for the first time since their events held in Tokyo between July and September in a video that has been made to support India’s ministry of health and family welfare’s efforts to promote safe celebrations to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases.
The video, titled #TyoharKeRangCABKeSang demonstrates hope against all challenges and features India’s heroes from the Olympics and Paralympics this year reminding their fellow citizens to not become complacent during the celebrations and celebrate the festivals responsibly.
They urged the citizens to continue observing the Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB), which means maintaining hand hygiene, maintaining a distance of six feet, wearing a mask and vaccinating themselves if they are 18 or above, by logging into the government’s CoWin portal or Aarogya Setu app.
The video features national heroes who not only have beaten odds like extreme poverty and physical challenges to make their country proud at the highest levels – the Olympic and Paralympic events.
India this year produced their best results at both the Olympic and Paralympic in Tokyo. While their Olympians returned with seven medals, including one in hockey after a gap of 41 years, the Paralympians clinched a record 19 medals.
The sportspersons shown in the video include javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who bagged a gold; Ravi Kumar Dahiya who won silver and Bajrang Punia who won bronze in wrestling; Bhavani Devi, who became India’s first fencer to qualify for the Olympic and PR Sreejesh, the goal-keeper of the Indian hockey team that won bronze.
Among the Paralympians in the video are Praveen Kumar, who won silver in high jump, Harvinder Singh, who won bronze in archery; Ekta Bhyan, club throw finalist; Avani Lekhara, who became the first Indian woman to win two medals at the same Olympics/Paralympics by winning a gold and bronze in shooting; Yogesh Kathunia, who won silver in discus throw and Majoj Sarkar, who won bronze in badminton.
In the video, the sportspersons say, “Khathinaaiyon ka samjhdhaari se saamna aur samaadhaan nikaalna humari zimmedaari hai …Sports aur Zindagi mein!” (in times of difficulty, it is our responsibility to face the problems wisely and bring out their solutions. Both in sports and life).
