INDIAN president Ram Nath Kovind will deliver his Address to the Nation on Saturday (14), on the eve of the country’s 75th Independence Day. The address will begin at 7 pm local time and will be broadcast on the state-owned All India Radio and Doordarshan.
On Sunday, prime minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the Indian Tricolour and address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi. The speech, which is likely to begin at 7.30 am, will be his eighth Independence Day speech after taking office in 2014.

Modi is set to host India’s Olympics contingent which recently competed at the Tokyo Games and finished with the country’s highest medal haul ever – seven.
This year’s ceremony will witness a limited attendance owing to the Covid-19 pandemic protocol.

Last year, Modi applauded the frontline workers combating the pandemic during his Independence Day speech. He had said that while India was going through a unique phase owing to the pandemic, it would nevertheless come out victorious because of the countrymen’s iron resolve. He also stressed on the importance of a self-reliant India.
