Indian defence minister Rajnath Singh tests Covid positive

INDIAN defence minister Rajnath Singh on Monday (10) said he was infected by the coronavirus and he put him in isolation at home. He, however, said that his symptoms were mild.

In a tweet, Singh, 70, said, “I have tested positive for Corona today with mild symptoms. I am under home quarantine. I request everyone who have recently come in my contact to isolate themselves and get tested.”

India’s junior central minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar also tested positive for the virus on Sunday (9). In a tweet, he said, “And after succeeding in avoiding COVID-19 for the last 21 months, it finally catches up with me today as I tested positive today.”

India reports first Omicron-related death

Recently, Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of the state of Delhi, and Ashok Gehlot, his counterpart in Rajasthan, tested positive for Covid-19.

Kejriwal on Sunday said that he had recovered. For Gehlot, it was the second instance of him testing positive after 2021.

India on Monday recorded 1,79,723 fresh Covid-19 cases, pushing the active caseload to 7,23,619.

The daily positivity rate stood at 13.29 per cent and 146 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
