MAKING a strong pitch in favour of US president Joe Biden, Indian-American billionaire Vinod Khosla recently asked the supporters of former president Donald Trump whether they would want their children to be like the latter.

Trump is set to challenge Biden in this year’s presidential election, which will be a rematch of the 2020 polls. Biden was the challenger on that occasion and went on to defeat the mercurial Republican to become the president.

The billionaire Indian-born venture capitalist said in a post on X while reposting a tweet made by a journalist who spoke to him over backing the incumbent president, “The question I keep asking myself is would his supporters want their own kids to be like @realDonaldTrump and have #Trumpvalues? Do you want your kids to be like him? Republicans and Democrats can disagree on priorities but its Democrats, Republicans and #DONkeyRumpTrump hijack victims.”

The tickets were in the range of $6,600-$100,000 (£5,254-£79,602), and raised a total of $1.5 million (£1.19 million) for Biden. It was the inaugural fundraiser by an Indian-American in the current election cycle which is attended by Biden. The event also saw the presence of many Indian-Americans from the Silicon Valley area.

This was the first fundraiser by an Indian-American in the 2024 election cycle attended by Biden.

The president, who thanked Khosla and his wife Neeru for hosting him, cracked several jokes about Trump. “Not everyone is feeling the enthusiasm these days. The other day this guy walked up, said I’m in real trouble, short on cash, I don’t know what to do. I said Donald I can’t help you,” he said.

He also spoke about immigrants being “incredible contributors” to the worth ethics of the US.
