INDIA's women's cricket team declined to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday, capping a lopsided championship win with a presentation ceremony that fell apart in front of the crowd.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the T20 final in Dubai to claim a record-extending eighth continental title, but Harmanpreet Kaur's squad opted out of the trophy presentation entirely, mirroring the decision made by India's men's team a year earlier.

In both cases, the trophy was to be presented by Naqvi in his capacity as head of the Asian Cricket Council. Naqvi also serves as Pakistan's interior minister and chairman of the country's cricket board — dual roles that have made him a lightning rod in both incidents.
The episode played out against the backdrop of longstanding tension between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan. A year after defeating Pakistan in the men's final, that trophy still hasn't been claimed.
Sunday's ceremony was held up for almost 50 minutes before further unraveling: Naqvi handed out medals only to the runner-up squad before the event wrapped up abruptly.

India's players ended up presenting medals to one another, while BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla watched from the sidelines.
"That stand has been taken by BCCI (Indian cricket board), and we stand by it," India women's coach Amol Muzumdar told reporters, standing behind the decision to skip the ceremony. "We are the champions, that's good enough."
