India project wins award at World Government Summit in Dubai

iRASTE, which won the prize in the AI-Powered Government Services category, aims to improve road safety using the power of artificial intelligence to prevent accidents.

A PROJECT by India’s road transport and highways ministry was among those that won awards at the ninth GovTech Prize ceremony on the second day of the World Government Summit in Dubai, UAE, on Tuesday (13).

iRASTE, which won the prize in the AI-Powered Government Services category, aims to improve road safety using the power of artificial intelligence to prevent accidents. The project is likely to reduce the number of accidents by half in the western Indian city of Nagpur, a report in Khaleej Times said.

Besides the Indian project, those from Kazakhstan, Ghana and Indonesia were also crowned winners.

They included: the Digital Family Card project by the ministry of digital development, innovations and aerospace industry of Kazakhstan in the Inclusive Digital Transformation category; the Education Outcomes project by the education ministry of Ghana in the Education Services category and the Health Services Platform project by the Indonesian health ministry in the Healthcare Services category.

The GovTech Prize is managed by the Emirates Government Service Excellence Programme at the office of the UAE prime minister and designed to encourage pioneering students, researchers, government bodies, startups and the like to develop innovative solutions and new opportunities to give humanity a better future.

The awards are given to the central and local government entities worldwide in recognition of creative and innovative solutions for pressing challenges.

“The GovTech Prize reflects our approach of supporting efforts to lay the groundwork for the next generation of government services designed to make people’s lives easier,” Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai and chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.
