INDIANS constituted the biggest contingent of tech industry professionals across the world who have shifted base to Canada between April 2022 and March 2023, a recent report released by The Technology Councils of North American (TECNA) and Canada’s Tech Network (CTN), according to NRI Affairs.
The report is titled ‘Tech Workforce Trends: The Migration of Tech Workers and Tech Jobs Since the Pandemic’.
Out of a total of more than 32,000 tech workers, 15,097 originated from India, followed by Nigeria with 1,808. Canada’s favourable immigration policy and its advantage in terms of labour costs have led to such a trend, the report added.
The Canadian cities of Mississauga and Montreal were seen to be the leading urban centres in terms of accessing the talent pool. While Mississauga houses nearly 1,000 information technology companies employing more than 300,000 tech experts, Montreal saw a 31 per cent rise in tech ecosystems between 2015 and 2020, the NRI Affairs report added.
According to the report, the considerable influx of tech specialists in Canada addresses the demand for skilled labour.
Migration data revealed that while 1,900 tech professionals chose Mississauga, Montreal saw the arrival of 959 tech workers between April 2022 and March 2023.
It was also learnt that Canada was drawing tech talent from the US besides countries such as India, Nigeria and Brazil, including Indian professionals from major cities such as Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago.
