India president, vice president take part in yoga celebrations: ‘One of India’s great gifts to the world’

While the president participated in a yoga session at her official residence in New Delhi, the vice president was seen taking part in an event in Jabalpur in state of Madhya Pradesh.

INDIAN PRESIDENT Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday (21) celebrated the ninth International Day of Yoga by emphasising the significance of yoga as India’s valuable contribution to the world. She personally participated in a yoga session at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the president of India.

Murmu expressed her belief that yoga, with its integration of the body and mind, offers a comprehensive approach to life. She highlighted the transformative power of yoga and encouraged everyone to incorporate it into their daily lives.

In a tweet, the president wrote in Hindi, “Happy International Yoga Day everyone! Yoga is one of the great achievements of our civilization, and one of India’s great gifts to the world. Yoga establishes a balance between body and mind. Yoga is a holistic approach towards life. Yoga makes all of us more capable to face the growing challenges in our lives. On this day, I urge everyone to embrace yoga in their daily lives and experience its transformative power.”

Indian vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar, who also took part in a yoga event in Jabalpur in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, stressed on the significance of adopting yoga. He said India’s efforts have made yoga a universal festival, transcending individual boundaries to encompass the entire humanity. Alongside other dignitaries, he participated in a collective yoga program with the theme “Vasudhaiv Kutumbukam Ke Liye Yoga” at the Garrison Ground in Jabalpur.

Prime minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on his first state visit to the United States, extended his wishes to the nation on the occasion of International Day of Yoga. He stressed on historical significance of more than 180 countries responding to India’s call for celebrating yoga. He was set to lead yoga celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Wednesday. Modi reflected on the tremendous support for the proposal to establish International Yoga Day at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
