Here are news in brief related to Indian politics for Saturday, September 10, 2022:

Indian home minister Amit Shah, who is also the second most powerful leader in the country’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, on Saturday took a dig at Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the opposition party’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ (Unite India movement), saying the former Congress president was leading a campaign to unite the nation wearing a foreign t-shirt. He was referring to the BJP’s swipe at Gandhi for wearing a Burberry T-shirt reportedly costing over Rs 41,000 (£444). Shah, a former president of the BJP, sought to remind the Congress leader of his speech in parliament—where the latter had allegedly said India is not a nation—and asked him to “study India’s history”.

The BJP and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Saturday shared a picture and video of each other’s leaders with a ‘relative’ of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, Press Trust of India reported. Maharashtra BJP lawmaker Atul Bhatkhalkar circulated a video claiming that it showed one Rauf Memon, Yakub’s relative, attending a meeting with Sena leader and former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar. Thackeray’s aide Harshal Pradhan hit back by sharing a photograph purportedly showing the same Rauf Memon with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil. Earlier this week, the BJP had claimed that Memon’s grave was beautified when the coalition ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ government led by Thackeray was in power in Maharashtra, a charge rejected by the Shiv Sena.

When there is news in the media about their mutual quarrels and tussles within the family, party and their alliance, and about their open nexus with criminal elements and jail meetings, then why should there be no disappointment among the people” Mayawati tweeted in Hindi. According to her, SP has internal connivance (milibhagat) with the BJP.
