INDIA on Friday (22) confirmed its third case of monkeypox and like the previous two, the latest case has also been found in the southern state of Kerala.
Veena George, the state’s health minister, confirmed the news. The infected individual was found to be a 35-year-old man who returned to Kerala from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this month. The man, who lives in Kerala’s Malappuram, tested positive recently for the disease.
George said the infected man arrived in Kerala on July 6 and was undergoing treatment at the Manjeri Medical College in Manjeri, Kerala. His condition was stable, the minister added.
The first case of monkeypox in India was reported from Kollam, Kerala. The patient had also returned from the UAE on July 12. His samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, Maharashtra, and the result was positive.
The second case of monekypox was confirmed in the Kannur district of Kerala. In that case, the infected was found to be a 31-year-old man who also returned from the UAE. He came to Kerala on July 13 and the symptoms developed later.
