Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday delivered a strong message against corruption, vowing to take action against anyone involved in corrupt practices. Without explicitly naming anyone, he expressed his determination to hold every scamster accountable. Modi’s comments followed a recent opposition party meeting in Patna in the eastern state of Bihar where they pledged to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections. During his address to party workers in the poll-bound central state of Madhya Pradesh, Modi slammed the opposition’s meeting in Patna, accusing corrupt politicians of uniting to protect each other. He highlighted the role of grassroots party workers in exposing corruption at the village level. Additionally, PM Modi commented on the prevalence of election guarantees, linking it to corruption and scams worth billions of rupees. He assured the audience that he would not spare anyone involved in corruption and pledged to take strict action against them.

India’s home ministry on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive security review for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. Inter-agency coordination, the use of drones, dogs, and aerial-survey teams were highlighted during the meeting as measures to counter potential terrorist acts and promptly respond to disasters, official sources said. The meeting in New Delhi, chaired by home secretary Ajay Bhalla, included senior officers from various security forces, intelligence departments, the armed forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, administration, and the Amarnath shrine board. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which rules the Indian states of Delhi and Punjab, on Tuesday slammed the Narendra Modi government’s decision to initiate a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit into the reconstruction expenses of Delhi chief minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. The AAP claimed that the move “reeks of desperation” as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) anticipates defeat in the general elections of 2024. The party’s argued that a CAG audit was already conducted last year, revealing no evidence of financial irregularities. They accused the BJP of engaging in clandestine efforts to undermine the established power structure and violating constitutional principles. The BJP welcomed the CAG audit, calling Kejriwal’s residence a “Sheesh Mahal” (glass house).
