Congress leaders criticised the BJP government in Manipur for their inadequate efforts and non-democratic approach. The Congress expressed disappointment in the lack of progress despite measures announced by the home minister, Amit Shah.
Farmers blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh highway after a mahapanchayat (grand gathering) organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) to demand minimum support price (MSP) for sunflower seeds. The protest took place near the National Highway-44, with police diverting traffic through the Kurukshetra bypass. Leaders from various farmer organisations, including Rakesh Tikait and wrestler Bajrang Punia, who have been among the protesting wrestlers demanding action against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, attended the gathering. The farmers’ demand for a meeting with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was unmet, leading to the decision to block the highway until their demands were addressed. The farmers are protesting against the government’s failure to procure sunflower seeds at the promised minimum support price.
