India’s negotiations with France on its proposed procurement of 26 Rafale-M fighter jets and three Scorpene submarines are moving forward “positively”, people familiar with the matter said on Friday, days ahead of French president Emmanuel Macron’s visit to New Delhi. Macron will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26. Apart from New Delhi, the French President will also attend official events in another city as well during his two-day visit, the people cited above said. It is learnt that Macron may have some engagements in Jaipur in the western state of Rajasthan.
The government of the western state of Maharashtra has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 10,000 crore (£948 million) with Web Werks for investment in a mega IT/ITES data centre in the state in the next five years, chief minister Eknath Shinde’s office has said. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shinde in Davos where the World Economic Forum annual meeting is underway, the CM’s office said on X on Thursday night. The investment proposal has the potential to create direct employment for 1,500 people, it said. Earlier, Shinde had said that the state had inked MoUs worth Rs 353,675 crore (£33.5 million) at WEF.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) has teamed up with SMFG India Credit Co Ltd (formerly Fullerton India Credit Co) to offer financing options for the purchase of its motorcycles. The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, leverages SMFG India Credit’s status as an NBFC-ICC (Non-Banking Financial Company-Investment and Credit Company) registered with the Reserve Bank of India and a member of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group. With a focus on accommodating the needs of their growing Indian market, SMIPL managing director Kenichi UMEDA emphasized the goal of providing flexible and accessible retail finance options for Suzuki two-wheeler customers.
Spectre, the first fully electric Rolls-Royce, made its debut in North India on Friday, ushering in a new era for Rolls-Royce in the region. Pricing in India starts from Rs 7.5 crore (£711,090) (ex-showroom), the British luxury car said in a release. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars declared its commitment to electric technology by both announcing Spectre, an all-electric car with first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2023 and that by the end of 2030, the entire portfolio would be fully electric. Last October, Spectre was unveiled to the world at the Home of Rolls-Royce in West Sussex, England, and response from across the globe has been overwhelmingly positive. Now, ahead of first client deliveries later this year, Spectre made its North India debut.
No better time to be an Indian, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani summed up as he left Davos in Switzerland after participating in the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024. In a long LinkedIn post penning his experience during his stay in Davos and the interactions he had with global executives and thought leaders, the business tycoon concluded that India’s message and the actions it has taken resonate with the spirit of multilateralism and inclusiveness. The WEF’s annual meeting began on January 15 and concluded on Friday. Federal ministers Hardeep Puri, Smriti Irani, and Ashwini Vaishnaw represented India at the forum. Global leaders met at the event to rebuild trust, generate new ideas, and create partnerships to advance solutions to the challenges the world faces.
Airports in the Indian cities of Bengaluru and Delhi were adjudged as the best at the ongoing mega civil aviation conclave Wings India 2024 that kicked off at Begumpet Airport in the southern city of Hyderabad on Thursday (18). Indian civil aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented Wings India Awards 2024 at a function held at a city hotel on Thursday night. Vistara-Tata SIA Airlines Ltd bagged the Best Airline of the Year Award, while Air India was recognised for international connectivity and Alliance Air got recognition for regional connectivity. Air Indian Express was announced a sustainability champion.
