UAE-based retailer LuLu Group will construct what it termed India’s biggest shopping mall, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore. The construction for the proposed shopping mall will start in 2024 itself, said Yusuff Ali MA, chairman and managing director of Lulu Group International, speaking to Asian News International on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit that kicked off in Gandhinagar in the western state on Wednesday. A miniature has been put up for display at the UAE stall in Vibrant Gujarat. “The construction for India’s biggest shopping mall will start, and it is a miniature (model). The construction will start this year itself,” said Ali.
Indian commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said the PM Gati Shakti mechanism, a technology-backed infrastructure development platform implemented by the Narendra Modi government, will become a planning tool for the entire world in the years to come. He made the remarks while addressing a seminar on ‘PM Gati Shakti: Informed Decision Making for Holistic Development’ organised at Mahatma Mandir convention centre in Gandhinagar in Gujarat as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 which was inaugurated by PM Modi earlier in the day. “I say this with great responsibility and conviction, that PM Gati Shakti in the years to come will become a planning tool of infrastructure not only for India or Asia, but for the entire world,” Goyal said.
Taking the northern state of Punjab on the path of development, Indian road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday inaugurated 29 national highway projects with an investment of more than Rs 4,000 crore in the state’s Hoshiarpur. The implementation of the projects inaugurated and foundation stone laid today will improve the infrastructure, which will lead to overall economic development of the implementation area and improve the quality of life of the population. There will be seamless and free movement of traffic which will also improve the efficiency of freight transportation. Construction of four-laning of the section, including Phagwara and Hoshiarpur bypass, will provide 100 kilometres per hour high-speed connectivity between Phagwara and Hoshiarpur and reduce travel time from 1 hour to 30 minutes.
Indian conglomerate Essar Group is setting up a 1-gigawatt green hydrogen project (1,000 megawatt) in Jamnagar in the western Indian state of Gujarat, besides expanding its ports and power businesses in the western state, said its promoter director Prashant Ruia. Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Ruia said, “We are focusing on three to four areas in India. In Gujarat, we are setting up a 1,000 MW green hydrogen project in Jamnagar. Also, we want to expand our existing power and port projects.” Last month, Essar signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat government to develop the project, involving an estimated investment of Rs 30,000 crore. In January last year, the Narendra Modi cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to make India a global hub for such technologies’ production, utilisation, and export.
Australian high commissioner to India Philip Green on Wednesday lauded the inauguration of Australia’s Deakin University branch campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, the first foreign university to ever open a campus in India. Green said, “I am so proud that the first university to establish a campus in India from anywhere in the world is Australia’s Deakin University at GIFT City. This opens a new chapter in Australia-India education ties, and this is only the beginning.” The university will enable students to study a Master of Business Analytics and a Master of Cybersecurity (Professional) from July this year, as per an official release. “The campus is the next step in Deakin University’s long-term strategy of investment in India’s future,” Green added.
