India is expected to emerge as the world’s fastest-growing major economy in the year ahead, as a post-pandemic retail boom and recent bank balance-sheet repairs lure fresh investment, boosting hot demand for everything — from cars to televisions, coal and airliners, Reuters reported. The world’s fifth-largest economy is expected grow six per cent in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, said a survey by the Indian central bank this month. While slower than the current fiscal year’s projected 6.8 per cent growth, the outlook contrasts with bleaker 2023 projections in the US, Europe and most noticeably China, where a recent surge in Covid-19 cases is expected to hobble activity next year, the report added.
The Narendra Modi government has asked the governments of India’s states to include a chapter on ‘prevention of food wastage’ in the school syllabi to create awareness among young students, the parliament was informed on Wednesday, PTI reported. India’s minister of state for food and consumer affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey, in his written reply to the Lok Sabha, said the government has carried out publicity campaigns through the print and electronic media from time to time to sensitize people against food wastage. “In addition, States/UTs (Union Territories) were advised by central government to include a chapter on prevention of food wastage in the school syllabi in order to inculcate awareness amongst young students and sensitize them on the subject,” he said.
With more Indians coming online, the potential of them being exposed to online gaming platform with harmful information has also increased, the parliament was informed on Wednesday, PTI reported. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, India’s minister of state for electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the government is aware of the possible risks and challenges associated with online games that have such information. “With the expansion of the Internet and more and more Indians coming online, the potential for Indians being exposed to online game, offered by online gaming platform intermediaries including online games that have information that is harmful or violates any law, has also increased,” he said. The minister said that the government has come up with Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which cast specific obligation on intermediaries, including intermediaries offering online games, to observe diligence.
Adani Solar – the photovoltaic manufacturing and research arm of the Adani Group, has introduced what it noted is India’s first large-sized monocrystalline silicon ingot. Inaugurated by the chairman of the Adani Group Gautam Adani at its Mundra facility in Gujarat recently, the monocrystalline ingots will drive indigenisation to produce renewable electricity from Silicon-based photovoltaic (PV) modules with efficiencies ranging from 21 per cent to 24 per cent, ANI reported. Adani Solar is a part of Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL), which is one of leading India’s energy transitions through the development of the world’s largest green hydrogen ecosystem.
Replying to a query on Wednesday, India’s minister of state for home Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha or Upper House of the parliament that the pre-paid services of mobile connection is available and working in the Union Territory of Ladakh, ANI reported. The minister said the total number of mobile connections in the Union Territory is 5,82,473 as on November 30, 2022. He also mentioned that the number of post-paid connections stands at 2,71,829 as on November 30, 2022, while the total number of pre-paid connections is 3,10,644 till this date.
