AS billions of Indians rejoiced the moment the country’s third lunar mission touched down upon the surface of the moon, its cricketing fraternity also came up with ecstatic reactions. As the Vikram lander reached the moon’s South Pole and the country, including prime minister Narendra Modi, erupted with joy, India’s current and former cricketers also joined the celebrations.
Members of the national team who are currently in Ireland for a T20 series enjoyed the proceedings and the Indian cricket board posted on X, formerly Twitter, a video of the India players clapping over the success of Chandrayaan-3 while watching the proceedings on television and saying, “Witnessing History from Dublin! The moment India’s Vikram Lander touched down successfully on the Moon’s South Pole.”

India were to take on Ireland in the third match of the T20 series which they have already won, at Malahide on Wednesday. However, the match was delayed because of rain.

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar, who was appointed by India’s Election Commission as the ‘national icon’ earlier in the day to spread awareness about voter participation in elections, said in post on X, “@ISRO represents the best of India. Humble, hardworking women & men, coming together, overcoming challenges, and making our tricolour fly high.
“India must celebrate and congratulate the Chandrayaan-2 team, which was led by Shri K Sivan, along with Shri S Somanath’s #Chandrayaan3 team. Every hard landing has lessons which take us closer to a soft landing – on the moon, and in life,” he added.

India captain Rohit Sharma, who will lead the country in the upcoming Asia Cup and ICC World Cup, said, “The ????? ?????? to reach the lunar south pole. That’s got a nice ring to it A proud moment for each one of us & a big congratulations to @isro for all their efforts.”
