The 1983 World Cup final between India and West Indies is widely remembered for India’s unexpected triumph. Opting to bowl first, West Indies restricted India to a modest total of 183. However, India’s bowlers put up an impressive performance, bowling the West Indies out for 140. Mohinder Amarnath’s all-round contribution earned him the man of the match award in both the semi-final (against England) and final.

Kapil Dev’s iconic moment of lifting the trophy on the balcony of Lord’s Cricket Ground remains etched in the memory of Indian fans. India’s triumph in 1983 marked their first-ever World Cup title win, and they went on to win the tournament once more time in 2011 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh was the man of the tournament in India’s second successful World Cup mission.

Throughout the years, Australia has been the most successful team in the World Cup, winning the title five times, while West Indies has won it twice. India’s victory in 1983 remains a significant milestone in the country’s cricketing history and continues to inspire future generations of players.
