IN an incident that recalled tension in the relation between India and China, troops from both nations engaged in a face-off along the Line of Actual Control in the Arunachal Pradesh sector in north-eastern India where patrols of the two giant neighbours came face to face at one point.
Sources in India’s defence establishment said the face-off happened last week and the troops disengaged following talks between their local commanders as per existing protocols. The entire episode lasted for a few hours before the troops disengaged, Asian News International said. According to the sources, the Indian troops outnumbered their Chinese counterparts.

They added that the Indian defence did not face any damage, the ANI report added.
India and China have clashing perceptions of the LAC since the border between them is not formally demarcated.

“Peace and tranquillity in these areas of differing perceptions have been possible by adherence to existing agreements and protocols between the two countries,” the sources added.
They said both sides undertake patrolling activities up to their line of perception.
Whenever the patrols of India and China meet physically, the situation is managed as per the established protocols and mechanisms agreed by both countries.
In August, India and China disengaged troops from the Gogra Heights area and withdrew them to their permanent bases.
The two nations, which have had a major clash in the eastern Ladakh region in the recent past, had the 12th round of military talks where both agreed to disengage troops from patrolling point 17A, one of the friction points between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in the eastern Ladakh area.
