HERE are news in brief related to Indian economy and business for Monday, June 3, 2024:
Indian budget airlines IndiGo will host the 81st annual general meeting of the International Airport Transport Association (IATA) in Delhi in June next year and the meeting will be held in the country after a gap of 42 years. The decision to host the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in India was made at the ongoing annual general meeting (AGM) in Dubai. India has hosted the AGM twice in the past in Delhi — in 1958 and 1983. IATA is a grouping of more than 330 airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet and Vistara. “India, becoming the third largest economy within the next few years and leading the fourth industrial revolution with the use of AI, is a nation on the move. India’s rise in the global aviation landscape over the last years has been nothing short of remarkable,” IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said on Monday.
Indian food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked food business operators to immediately remove claims of 100 per cent fruit juices in advertisements as well as labels on packaged products. According to an official statement, FSSAI has issued a directive mandating all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to remove any claim of ‘100% fruit juices’ from the labels and advertisements of reconstituted fruit juices with an immediate effect. All the FBOs have also been instructed to exhaust all existing pre-printed packaging materials before September 1, 2024. “It has come to the attention of FSSAI that several FBOs have been inaccurately marketing various types of reconstituted fruit juices by claiming them to be 100 per cent fruit juices,” the statement said.
Indian IT major Wipro on Monday said it has appointed Bruno Schenk as the country head and managing director for Switzerland, with immediate effect. He will report to Wipro’s Europe CEO Pierre Bruno. Schenk is taking over from René Mulder, who has decided to explore new opportunities beyond Wipro, the company said. He was previously the CEO of Eviden Switzerland, an Atos business. “I extend a warm welcome to Schenk, and I look forward to the insights, energy and rigour he will bring to our clients and teams in Switzerland and as part of our Europe Leadership Team,” said Pierre Bruno.
Indian ride-hailing platform Rapido on Monday revealed that it facilitated greater voter participation in the just concluded general elections in the country by providing a million free rides during the polling that ended on June 1. The Bengaluru-based commute app had pledged to provide free bike taxi, auto, and cab rides to voters, under its ‘Sawaari Zimmedari Ki’ campaign, earlier in May. “On election days, Rapido’s extensive network of 4 lakh (400,000) captains transported voters seamlessly, providing a staggering 10 lakh (1 million) free rides that covered an approximate distance of 32 lakh (3.2 million) kilometres,” it said in a statement.
