In Paris, Modi meets French counterpart Borne, senate chief; hails Indian diaspora

The Indian prime minister’s office said in a tweet that Modi and his French counterpart Elisabeth Borne reviewed various facets of India-France partnership and discussed measures to strengthen their ties further.

INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi, who reached Paris, France, on Thursday (13) on a two-day visit, met his French counterpart Elisabeth Borne over delegation-level talks with an aim to bolster strategic ties between the two democracies. Earlier in the day, Modi was received by Borne at the airport on arrival in a special gesture.

The Indian prime minister’s office said in a tweet that the two leaders reviewed various facets of India-France partnership and discussed measures to strengthen their ties further.

Modi also met Gerard Larcher, president of the French senate during the day and according to the PMO, the duo “deliberated on a range of issues of mutual interest and agreed to work together to deepen India-France cooperation in a number of areas”.

The prime minister also tweeted about his meeting with Larcher along with photographs, saying in both English and French, “Delighted to have met Mr.@gerard_larcher, President of the @Senat. Had productive exchanges on ways to deepen India-France cooperation across diverse sectors.”

Modi, who was set to attend the Bastille Day parades on Friday (14) and hold talks with French president Emmanuel Macron, also met the local Indian diaspora and expressed his admiration for them. The prime minister was seen greeting Indians, speaking with children and obliging fans who sought to take selfies with him.

In a tweet, he wrote in English and French, “A warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Paris! Around the world, our Diaspora has carved out a place for itself and is admired for its diligence and hardworking nature.”

 

Ahead of his departure from Delhi for Paris, Modi expressed confidence that his visit will give a fresh impetus to the bilateral strategic partnership between India and France.
