A THEATRE artiste belong to India’s Muslim minority has received death threats for playing Lord Rama in ‘Ramlila’ for a long time. The incident happened in Bareilly in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Danish, a 30-year-old who lives in the old city area, complained to police that a man from his own community issued him the threat and warned him against taking part in the event which is a dramatic re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama.

In his complaint, Danish said his tenant, with whom he has a dispute over rent, tried to make an issue out of a Muslim playing the role of a Hindu god.

According to him, the tenant attacked him and his associate with a knife but he managed to escape unhurt.

Danish is associated with a local theatre group and has been playing the role of Lord Rama for the past six or seven years and even got recognition for his acting skills.
