In India’s Odisha, umpire killed in local cricket match for giving ‘no ball’

A local cricket match turned deadly as the umpire officiating the game was murdered in a fit of rage after he signalled ‘no ball’. The shocking incident happened in Cuttack in the eastern Indian coastal state of Odisha on Sunday (2). The accused was arrested.

According to a report by India Today, the deceased, identified as Lucky Raut, 22, was stabbed to death by a person named Smruti Ranjan Rout following an argument over the ‘no ball’ display.

According to eyewitnesses, Raut was stabbed with a sharp knife on the field, following which people present on the ground caught the accused and handed him over to the police.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

According to reports, the incident happened during a match between two teams in a tournament.

Tension prevailed in the locality following the incident and police forces were deployed to keep things in order. An investigation was launched.
