Fire department officials rushed in after the house of a senior official of a private company caught fire. But during the incident, accounted cash worth Rs 1.65 crore (£160,485) were discovered.
The incident has happened in Hyderabad in the southern Indian state of Telangana.
According to reports, the fire officials arrived at the scene after the police at Gopalapuram area reported about the fire’s outbreak at the residence of the individual named Srinivas, who works as a deputy general manager at a private company. The fire officials arrived on the scene and doused the flames that had only affected old furniture and trash on the house’s ground floor.
However, the police reportedly received a tip about cash being kept on the house’s first floor and monitored the fire. They entered the building and found the cash besides gold and silver articles, India’s Times Now reported.
Srinivas is currently out of the town, the police said, adding that the former also has government electricity contracts, the Times Now News report added.
The income-tax department was alerted about the money and an investigation was underway.
Police suspect the fire could be a foul play since it broke out when there was no one in the house.
