IN a shocking incident, seven members of a family, including three children, were found dead at their house in Surat in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Saturday (28). A note was recovered from the spot by the police that said that the family decided to take the extreme step due to financial hardships.
The police said while six people died due to consumption of poison, one was found hanging. They were investigating to ascertain the exact cause of the deaths.
“A man, his wife, his parents, the couple’s six-year-old son and two daughters aged 10 and 13 were found dead at their residence in Siddheshwar Apartment in Surat this afternoon. We are trying to ascertain the exact cause of their death,” R P Barot, deputy commissioner of police, zone 5, told news agency PTI.
The deceased were identified as Kanubhai Solanki, his wife Shobhaben, son Maneesh, daughter-in-law Rita and their three children.
Maneesh, who worked as a contractor, was found hanging from the ceiling. The others were found lying on the bed and floor.
