IN a shocking incident, eight people have been arrested in the eastern Indian state of Bihar for allegedly offering Rs 13 lakh (£12,269) to men for making women, who could not conceive, pregnant.
According to a report by India’s NDTV, the accused ran a racket under the name of ‘All India Pregnant Job Service’, the police said.
The incident happened in Nawada in southern Bihar.
According to police, the accused would get in touch with men through WhatsApp and social media and offered them an opportunity to earn a good amount in return for their “service”.
The interested candidates were asked to pay Rs 799 (£7.5) as a registration fee. After they registered, the gang asked them to choose from a group of women who they wanted to impregnate, by sharing their pictures.
They were also asked to give a security amount ranging upto Rs 20,000 (£189), depending on how “attractive the woman was”, the report added.
While the candidates were told that they would be given Rs 13 lakh if the women conceived, they were also promised a consolation amount of Rs 5 lakh if they failed, a top police officer from Nawada told the news outlet.
A special investigation team of Bihar Police soon conducted a raid in Nawada and arrested the accused.
Mobile phones and a printer were discovered from the accused. Police said they were trying to locate the mastermind.
The police officer added that the accused are part of a cyber syndicate that operates across the country.
