THE southern Indian state of Telangana is witnessing heavy rainfall and some of top its political leaders, including chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao or ‘KCR’, were seen in the thick of actions, some even unconventional, while visiting the flood-affected areas on Sunday (17).

Rao, who leads the state’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), went to the holy town of Bhadrachalam in the state where he offered ‘Shanti Puja’ (offerings to calm down) to the River Godavari in spate because of heavy downpour. The chief minister inspected the river from atop a bridge along with some of his government’s ministers and legislators.

He then visited a rehabilitation centre set up for those affected by the flood situation. The victims were assured of medical and other assistance. Rao, who also had a review meeting with his ministers over the flood situation in the state, was supposed to do an aerial survey of the affected areas but called it off later because of inclement weather and paid the visit by road.

Cloudbursts a ‘foreign conspiracy’? Netizens amused

The chief minister also sparked a controversy by remarking at a public meeting in Bhadrachalam town that cloudbursts could be engineered by “foreign entities” to “destabilise” the country. The remark left netizens amused and they came up with funny reactions.
