In Abu Dhabi, Modi assures India’s full support for UAE COP28 presidency

The Indian PM extended New Delhi’s support while speaking with Dr Sultan Al Jaber, president-designate of COP28 UAE and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (15) spoke with Dr Sultan Al Jaber, president-designate of COP28 UAE and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company during his day-long visit to Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he expressed India’s unwavering support for the Middle Eastern nation’s presidency of COP28.

The meeting took place following Modi’s trip to Paris, where he participated in the Bastille Day parade as the guest of honour and signed various agreements to strengthen bilateral ties between India and France. The Indian prime minister was also conferred France’s highest honour, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.

In a tweet in English and Arabic, Modi said, “Had a very productive meeting with Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the President-designate of @COP28_UAE. Our discussions focused on ways to further sustainable development. Highlighted India’s contribution in this direction, in particular our emphasis on Mission LiFE.”

Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for India’s ministry of external affairs, tweeted about the meeting, stating that Modi had a constructive conversation with Dr Jaber. The latter provided an overview of the upcoming COP28 and its significance. In response, the prime minister assured the UAE of India’s complete support for their presidency. Additionally, he highlighted India’s ongoing efforts and initiatives to combat climate change.

COP28, the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, is the 28th edition of the annual conference that aims to address global climate challenges. It will take place from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City in Dubai. These conferences have been held since 1992, following the initial United Nations climate agreement. The primary objective of these gatherings is for participating governments to agree on policies and measures to mitigate the rise in global temperatures and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
