THE International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday (25) suspended India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur for next two international matches over her aggressive behaviour shown during the third one-day international (ODI) against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Sunday (23).

The 34-year-old ace batter shattered her stumps after being given out by the umpire on the ground. Later, she was accused of taunting the home officials and umpires at the presentation ceremony which saw the Bangladesh team walking out of the photography session with the trophy after the bilateral series ended 1-1 as the final match ended in a tie.

Kaur was handed the suspension following two separate incidents of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

“The incidents occurred during the third match of the ICC Women’s Championship series against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday,” the cricket’s international governing body said in a release on Tuesday (25).

“The first incident occurred specifically when Kaur expressed frustration after her dismissal by hitting the wickets with her bat after she was adjudged caught at slip off spinner Nahida Akter in the 34th over of India’s innings.”

The batter with more than 6,500 international runs was fined 50 per cent of her match fee for the Level 2 offence and got three demerit points on disciplinary record.

“She was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision”,” the ICC said.

The India captain was also fined 25 percent of her match fee for a Level 1 offence relating to “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match” when she openly criticised the umpiring in the match during the presentation ceremony.

The ICC said in its release that the cricketer admitted to the offences.

“The Indian captain admitted the offences and agreed to the sanctions proposed by Akhtar Ahmed of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing, and the penalties were implemented promptly,” the ICC added.
