KAREENA KAPOOR KHAN, in her 25th year as an actor, shared that her passion for cinema remains as strong as when she started.
At the announcement of the “PVRINOX celebrates 25 Years of Kareena Kapoor Khan Festival,” she said, “It just feels like I just gave my first shot yesterday because that’s the kind of energy I have inside me. I still have that fire, that want, that need, that greed of wanting to just be in front of the camera.”
The week-long festival, which runs from September 20 to September 27 across 30 cinemas in 15 cities, will showcase her work over the past two decades. Kareena expressed her excitement about revisiting films that she believes deserve more recognition.
Debuting with JP Dutta’s “Refugee” in 2000, Kareena has become one of Bollywood’s top leading actors, with hits like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…”, “Jab We Met,” “Udta Punjab,” and “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” among her notable works.
Reflecting on her career, she acknowledged the pressure of maintaining success in an industry dominated by male actors but highlighted the importance of reinvention.
“After a decade, if you are able to sustain, it’s also about the question of reinvention, which is very scary in an industry that is male dominated.”
Kareena credited her longevity to a mix of hard work, luck, and her willingness to try new things.
She also spoke about her two fan-favorite characters, Poo from “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…” and Geet from “Jab We Met.” Both roles have become iconic, though she admits that at the time, they were not planned with the intention of creating lasting legacies.
The actor also emphasized that her success is a result of her connection with the audience, saying, “I am where I am after 25 years only because of them.”
