THE untimely death of Indian singer KK (actual name Krishnakumar Kunnath) after an event in Kolkata in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on Tuesday (31) has left everybody stunned. From his colleagues in the music industry to political stalwarts to countless fans, condolences have poured in thick and fast.
The singer felt uneasy in a jam-packed venue during the concert on a humid day and was rushed to his hotel where his condition worsened. He reportedly suffered a chest pain and passed away on the way to hospital.
The government of Bengal decided to bid adieu to the late singer through a gun salute. KK’s wife Jyoti Krishna and son Nakul Krishna Kunnath reached Kolkata along with two other members of the family to receive the body of KK, who has sung for several hit films in Bollywood and in other regional Indian languages.

The virtual world mourned the shocking death of KK and reactions poured in. The music and film fraternities also condoled KK’s death besides Indian prime minister Narendra Modi who said, “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”

Ace singer Shreya Ghoshal, who has sung a number of duets with KK, said on Twitter, “I am unable to wrap my head around this news. Numb. #KK Why! This is too hard to accept! Heart is shattered in pieces.”

Ghoshal reportedly broke down in the middle of a live concert in Indore in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh after hearing the news.
Sonu Nigam, another popular Indian singer, said, on Instagram, “KK mere bhai, not done.”
Indian singer, songwriter and music composer Vishal Dadlani said in a tweet, “The tears won’t stop. What a guy he was. What a voice, what a heart, what a human being. #KK is FOREVER!!!”

In another tweet, he requested to the media to not to ask him for statements about KK as he was not in a condition to do so.

Veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt also mourned the popular singer’s death saying, “Saddened by the untimely demise of #KK. What an evergreen singer he was, condolences to his family and fans across #RIPKK”

Indian railways and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also expressed his shock over KK’s death, tweeting, “A loss for every musician & music lover! Heartfelt condolences. #KK”
