Having worked in multiple film industries, including Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, the actress feels the North versus South divide is “petty” and called for collaboration

RATHER than debating regional divides in Indian cinema, actor Huma Qureshi believes the industry should focus on creating its own versions of global hits like “Squid Game”, “Money Heist”, and “Avatar”.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) recently held in Kozhikode, she dismissed the North versus South divide as “petty” and called for collaboration.
“These are the questions that should be asked,” Qureshi said. “The whole industry should come together to answer them, as opposed to being engaged in these petty, divided conversations about which industry is taking over. I feel it’s a rubbish debate — great for clickbait, but there’s no reality to it.”
Qureshi, who has worked in multiple film industries, including Tamil and Malayalam cinema, said cross-regional collaborations have always existed.
She previously acted in “Kaala“, “Valimai”, and “White”, and expressed interest in more South Indian films.
In addition to her acting career, Qureshi released her debut novel “Zeba: An Accidental Superhero” last year. The book follows a young woman who must protect her world from a ruthless ruler.
Writing, she said, was a daunting experience. “As an actor, you get misquoted in so many interviews… And here I am willingly, with no gun to my head, trying to put out my thoughts in a book format.”
Currently, Qureshi is filming “Maharani” season four and will also appear in “Delhi Crime season three” and “Jolly LLB 3”.
