India’s natural resources conglomerate Vedanta on Monday (15) named Sonal Shrivastava, executive of Holcim AG, as its new chief financial officer (CFO), effective June 1.

According to Reuters, the move comes as Vedanta’s parent Vedanta Resources attempts to trim its debt. Concerns have been raised over its ability to meet financial obligations.

The development also happens following a lapse in Hindustan Zinc Limited’s proposed deal to buy zinc assets from the company for nearly $3 billion.

Shrivastava worked in the Holcim Group as the CFO for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa operations, Reuters reported citing a statement issued by Vedanta.

Vedanta recently posted a 68 per cent fall in fourth-quarter profit amid reducing prices of metals.
