GURUGRAM is a boomtown and home to 23 individuals with a net worth exceeding ₹10 billion (£90.91 million).
This includes some high-profile names from the tech startup world such as Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal and Urban Company CEO Abhiraj Singh Bhal.
However, the distinction of being the richest resident goes to a low profile Nirmal Kumar Minda, 66, who runs an auto ancillary company UNO Minda.
And he leaves competition far behind as his net worth is nearly three times higher than the second richest.
According to Hurun India Rich List 2024, Minda’s net worth stands at ₹308 billion (£2.80bn), while Goyal comes a distant second with ₹93 billion (£845.5m) and Bhal figures 13th in the list with ₹2.2 billion (£20m).
Minda is a second-generation businessman and he joined his family’s auto ancillary business in 1977. His father Shadilal Minda had set up the company in 1958.
Nirmal later separated from his brother in the 90s, and steered the company to become a key manufacturer of automotive components for cars and two-wheelers.
The third richest in Gurugram is Varun and Ghazal Alagh, founders of Honasa Consumer Ltd, known for their Mamaearth brand.
Their combined net worth for 2024 is estimated at ₹59 billion (£536.38m).
In fourth place is Jyoti Bhatia, sister of Rahul Bhatia, co-founder of IndiGo Airlines with a net worth of ₹45billion (£409.10m).
As per the Hurun India Rich List, Gurugram’s upper crust is drawn from industries such as auto manufacturing, e-commerce, and construction.
