THE INDIAN Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) will conclude its 15th edition on August 25 with the Australian premiere of “Girls Will Be Girls,” directed by Shuchi Talati.

The film, which has already garnered praise at international festivals including Cannes and Sundance, marks the debut production of actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal under their banner, Pushing Button Studios.

The film is set in a boarding school in a small Himalayan town and follows the story of 16-year-old Mira and her complex relationship with her mother.

Lead roles are played by Preeti Panagrahi and Kani Kusruti. “We are incredibly honored that ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ has been chosen to close such a prestigious film festival,” said Fazal.

Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM, IFFM’s festival director, expressed her pride in selecting the film as the festival’s closing feature. “The film truly speaks of the current times and is an absolute true to the coming-of-age genre,” she stated.
