THE PRODUCTION debut of actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal “Girls Will Be Girls” will be released on Amazon Prime Video on December 18.
The movie, directed by Shuchi Talati, has already made waves in the festival circuit, earning top honours at the Sundance Film Festival and the MAMI Film Festival.
Set in 1990s Dehradun, the coming-of-age drama follows 16-year-old Mira as she navigates a journey marked by rebellion and self-discovery, intertwined with her mother’s unfulfilled aspirations.
Starring Preeti Panigrahi, Kani Kusruti, and Kesav Binoy Kiron, the film has resonated with audiences for its compelling storytelling and powerful performances.
Talati, who is 38 years old, drew from her own experiences of being “constantly policed” during her teenage years to shape the film’s narrative.
The movie’s acclaim includes significant recognition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category, and Panigrahi earned a special jury award for her performance. It has also been awarded at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and the Mumbai MAMI Film Festival.
Prime Video announced the premiere date on Wednesday through an official post on X, writing, “Witness the coming of age story with a touch of rebellion & desire.”
